We are on a Journey…

I don’t know about you, but I do love a good road trip. Many of my best memories during college included road trips. From short ones (for SAB Retreats or to Quaker Steak N Lube for wings), medium ones (to Chicago for a programing conference, which also created the tradition of pledge names), and various long ones (to Florida to work for summer camp). I actually did a road trip with fellow SABers (Amanda McCaffery & Whitney Linley) to meet Amanda Porter (another SABer) in Denver. We also partake in other forms of road trips and journeys in life.

We also are on a journey in our college experience where we experience many different pit stops or memories: late night experiences with friends or joining a specific organization. For some of us, there are pit stops we wish we didn’t experience (i.e. a crisis in what major to choose, what we are going to do after graduation, or the loss of family members during our college experience). Yet, it is this journey which shapes us to become future leaders in our communities. Journeys also take part in our faith.
For many of us, we are about to begin a journey into Lent, which will eventually lead to the Easter experience. For many individuals, Lent will involve taking some sort of spiritual discipline which may also include giving something up (chocolate, Facebook, or something else). As I think about what these 40 some odd days mean for me, I consider how to grow deeper in my faith (something you may think a pastor has down to a science but it isn’t always the case). I too get caught up in the busyness of life (work, family, and even the news) and I sometimes hit stumbling moments in my faith where I wonder why do some of the struggles of the world take place. What I am reminded of, whether it is during Lent or in my life of faith in general, there are those who take part in my journey. I have friends who I still keep in contact with from Capital who wonder how I am doing (some even prayed for me), I have my family who lifts me up in difficult times, and I also have a God who continues to be active within my life.

Whether you partake in Lent, think about your next coming road trip, trying to figure out what the heck is next for you after graduation, or if you are just wondering what is coming around the bend of life. May you be reminded of the importance of the journey (especially your journey in faith) because it is through we are reminded that no matter what, there is someone accompanying us on this journey. We may not physically see someone with us, but we at least know God is with us on this journey, celebrating with us in those moments of joy but also comforting and strengthening us in the difficult times. To me, that makes the journey that sweeter.
Prayers for you as you partake in your own journey. Especially prayers and blessings towards those who will be graduating this semester, you will do many great things.

Peace,
